Therapeutic Category : Ophthalmic Hypotensive
Composition :
1. Ocumed Eye Drops (0.25%) : Each ml contains
Timolol maleate USP equivalent to Timolol 2.5
mg.
2. Ocumed Eye Drops (0.5%): Each ml contains Timolol
maleate USP equivalent to Timolol 5.0 mg.
Pharmacology : Timolol is a beta adrenergic
blocking agent. It decreases intraocular pressure
by decreasing the production of aqueous humour
by the ciliary body. It is a well-tolerated and
efficacious drug with no adverse effect on visual
acuity, accommodation or size of the pupil.
Indications : Used for reducing elevated
intraocular pressure in :
- Chronic open angle glaucoma
- Aphakic glaucoma
- Secondary glaucoma
Dosage : 1 drop of 0.25%
solution in the effected eyes twice daily. If
the response is inadequate 0.5% solution may be
used in the same manner.
Directions For Use : If irritation persists
or increases, discontinue the preparation and
consult the ophthalmologist. Do not touch the
tip of the dropper with any open surface since
it may contaminate the solution. After use secure
the cap tightly. Ocumed eye drops are for external
use only. In the interest of the patient it is
advisable not to use the vial of another patient.
Solution must be used within one month of opening
the container.
Presentation : 5 ml & 10
ml plastic vial.
Adverse Effects : May lead to rise in intraocular
tension in some patients. Systemic anti-adrenergic
effects, like bradycardia may sometimes be experienced.
Contraindications : Hypersensitivity, narrow
angle glaucoma.
Storage : Store at a temperature upto 25oC,
protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep out
of the reach of children.
