Composition : Each film coated tablet contains
1. Lomefloxacin Hydrochloride Equivalent to Lomefloxacin
400 mg
Pharmacology : Lomefloxacin is a Fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent used for the
treatemnt of urinary and respiratory tract infections.
It shares its mecahnsim of action with other drugs
of its class and inhibits the enzymes DNA Gyrase
and DNA Ligase. It has bactericidal activity against
common Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
It is also used as a second line anti tubercular
agent in selected cases of drug resistant tuberculosis.
Indication : For the treatment of the infections
caused by susceptible organisms such as :
- Complicated including recurrent Urinary tract
infections
- Tuberculosis
- Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated gonococcal infections
- Surgical Prophylaxis
Dosage : One tablet once a day for 5
to 10 days or as directed by the physician.
Adverse Effect : The most common adverse effects
are headache, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea
and abdominal pain. Many patients exhibit phototoxicity.
Contraindications : Ksenakvin is contraindicated
in patients hypersensitive to Lomefloxacin or
other quinolones.
Warning : Phototoxicity can be significantly
reduced by administering the drug at least 12
hours before exposure to sunlight. The drug is
best consumed at night.
Presentation : 5 tablets in a blister pack
Storage : Store at a temperature upto 25oC,
protected from light. |
